Huron, South Dakota - January 15, 2018 A long history of credit union support has secured a seat at the table of the Dakotaland Federal Credit Union (DFCU) Board of Directors for Lois Pletten of Aberdeen. Pletten was serving on the Consolidated HUB Co Federal Credit Union (CHFCU) Board at the time of the January 1st merger with Dakotaland and was a strong advocate for joining forces. “We couldn’t be more pleased to have a branch location in the community of Aberdeen. Lois has a nearly 30 year history with credit unions and we welcome this kind of commitment and experience to our board”, commented Dakotaland Federal Credit Union President, Dan Cumbee.

Pletten admits she is dedicated to her credit union volunteer work and agrees it is a major part of who she is. Traveling down memory lane, Lois recalls her late husband’s mother was one of the local telephone company’s founding credit union member’s. Pletten became a member herself in 1990. Later in 2000, past Credit Union Manager, Jennifer Starks encouraged her to run for a position on the board and she has been serving ever since. As for the DFCU Board, Lois looks forward to working with others who have the experience and forward thinking, along with the diversified staff, to provide the best for the credit union membership. “I feel the merger is a win-win for our members. It will allow us to be more competitive in this changing environment we face as a financial institution”, explains Pletten.

The oldest of 9 children and originally from Watertown, SD, Lois lived in the Minneapolis area and graduated from high school at Spring Lake Park, MN. Later she returned to South Dakota and earned two degrees; the first in Business Management and a second in Cosmetology. In 1975, Pletten made her way to the Hub City where she was employed with Aberdeen Glass for 12 years and then spent 24 years with 3M. Currently, Lois is a self-employed, semi-retired farmer with her business partner, Db Garber. In addition, she shares her Bath, SD home with farm livestock, 2 dogs and 3 cats. Pletten has one daughter, Chastidy Pletten, who resides in Aberdeen and in her free time, Lois enjoys bowling, golfing and spending time with her friends and family.

Dakotaland Federal Credit Union has locations in Huron, Volga, Brookings, Madison, Redfield, DeSmet, Mitchell, Aberdeen and Woonsocket. With 29,000 members and $318 million in assets, Dakotaland continues to be locally owned and operated offering a full-line of financial services to its membership since 1935.
