On the Move with Dakotaland

In many of our Dakotaland communities, public transit, is a life blood. Providing citizens a means to participate in the most fundamental of daily needs, such as picking up groceries, attending medical appointments, or meeting friends and family, is a simple service with a great number of moving parts. Dakotaland understands the need and has taken a creative interest in showing their support for getting people on the move in the Fair City.

Dakotaland partnered with People’s Transit in Huron, SD by sponsoring one of the new 12 passenger (with accommodations for 2 wheelchairs) buses. This unit was purchased to replace a transport which had reached the end of its useful life. Always looking for efficient and innovative ways to improve public transit services, this bus is 1 of 8 in the first round of propane (green fuel) models being added to the People’s Transit fleet. “We can expect these transport units to last at least 10 years, but to help extend their lifespan, we also chose to upgrade the suspension system. This improved our passenger’s experience, while reducing the amount of physical wear and tear on the vehicle,” says Gayle Kludt, Executive Director of People’s Transit.

Schedule to provide transportation services in and around Huron, you can’t miss the new Dakotaland bus with its festive graphics and a special invite to ‘Ride with the Home Loan Gnome” as he waves from a passenger window. “This was a fun project that also gave us the chance to support a viable service which the citizens of Huron rely on every day. In our own backyard, we believe this is how ‘Together Strong’ works,” added Dakotaland CEO, Ryan Goehner.

As People’s Transit expands to meet the needs of the community, there are additional sponsorship opportunities and driver positions available. If interested, reach out to Gayle Kludt at
