On Oct. 19, 2023, Dakotaland Federal Credit Union will join over 56,000 credit unions around the world to celebrate International Credit Union (ICU) Day®. In 1948, the U.S. Credit Union National Association (CUNA) decided to initiate a new national Credit Union Day celebration, which means this year marks the 75th anniversary of International Credit Union Day. CUNA and CUNA Mutual Insurance Society set aside the third Thursday of October as the national day of observance.
International Credit Union Day (ICU Day) exists to raise awareness and celebrate what makes credit unions unique: a mission to bring financial inclusion and well-being to people all over the world. Since its inception, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated through outreach, volunteering, fundraising and other activities. On our 75th anniversary, we have the unique opportunity to acknowledge the tireless effort of credit union employees while celebrating members the world over.
As always, the credit union motto is “not for profit, not for charity, but for service.” As Member-owned cooperatives, credit unions are uniquely focused on delivering service and value to their Members as their top priority.
