Huron, SD - November 22, 2017 Dakotaland Federal Credit Union celebrates 24 years of dedicated service by local businessman, Robin Olson. Robin joined the seven person volunteer Board of Directors for the Credit Union in 1993 and announced his retirement in 2017. Serving as the Chairman of the Board from 1998 to 2016, Olson’s commitment to the Credit Union philosophy of ‘people helping people’ has always been steadfast. Plus his guidance and impact on Dakotaland’s success is forever evident. “Robin led our Board through two very important decades, which were critical to the growth and strength of the Credit Union. His leadership was a beacon to me and those he served with,” commented Dakotaland Federal Credit Union President, Dan Cumbee.

When Mr. Olson joined the Board of Directors, Dakotaland had one branch location in Huron. The Credit Union was just over $10 million is assets and served 4,200 members. In 1993, Dakotaland granted $7 million dollars in loans and held $9 million in deposits. Nearly 25 years later, Olson has watched Dakotaland expand to 10 branch locations, $310 million in assets and over 27,000 members.

Robin admits 24 years went by a little too fast and he truly enjoyed his time on the Board of Directors. “I’m proud to have worked with some very hardworking and dedicated people over the years. My special thanks to my fellow board members, past and present, as well as the management and staff at the Credit Union.” shared Olson. Even though Olson has stepped down from the Board of Directors, he will maintain his commitment, which began over 24 years ago. Robin has agreed to extend his years of expertise to Dakotaland’s Supervisory Committee, which provides auditing oversite to ensure the Credit Union’s financial position is both safe and sound now and in the future.

Robin is a Wolsey High School graduate and served four years in the United States Air Force. He joined the police force and then later went into business with his father and brother. He has been a partner of the family operated, Olson Construction for nearly 30 years. Robin resides in Huron, but also takes refuge in Arizona during a portion of the winter months.
