Volga Branch Manager, Gene Bjorklund, has announced his retirement. After 24 years of dedicated service to Dakotaland Federal Credit Union and the Volga & Brookings members, Gene’s last day in the office is Friday, March 21st, 2025.

Bjorklund joined Dakotaland in 2001. As a part of the credit union’s management team, Gene acted as the Volga Branch Manager his entire career. Sharing his leadership skills and experience, he also accepted the responsibilities as the Brookings Branch Manager for three years. Bjorklund has been a humble leader and proudly represented the credit union in the Sioux Valley community with a helping hand and a genuine smile.  Gene has always had a heart for service and has dedicated his life to giving back to his community. Serving 21 years on the Volga Fire Department, Gene held every office at one point and named Fire Chief for three years. During that time, he led the efforts in building a new fire hall in the city of Volga. An advocate for the young generation, Gene refereed high school volleyball for 35 years and plans to get back on the court during his retirement.

Dakotaland Federal Credit Union, the board of directors, staff, and members, are honored to have worked with Gene and are excited to celebrate his successes as a well-respected member of our credit union family.  As Gene starts a new chapter in life, Dakotaland will strive to honor and carry forward the legacy he has created. Following his retirement celebration on March 21st, Gene is looking forward to spending some quality time with his wife, Michelle, while enjoying time on the golf course, hunting, fishing, and being part of his kids and grandkids activities
