Independence: Darin can you give us the main reasons you see your customers considering a pre–built home?
Darin: Of course. There are several reasons, but I can think of three which come to mind immediately. Due to competitive pricing, we see many first time home buyers shopping the pre–built market. For our senior citizens, which may be downsizing from a larger home, the pre–built option has become a viable one. And lastly for those in need of disability accommodations, the pre–built custom floor plans are many times the solution they are searching for.
Independence: Is it true, a pre-built home is a faster alternative to traditional home construction?
Darin: In most cases, yes. It is customary for our company to have a home designed, built and set in three months.
Independence: If I choose the pre-built home option, will I still need a contractor?
Darin: Maybe. At Brewster, you pick out your home and we handle the rest. We build it, move it and set it in place, which means we are your general contractor. We manage the number of reputable sub-contractors, it takes to complete your home. In the event you want to pour a basement, attach a garage or build a deck, you may decide to tackle those projects yourself, or hire a contractor to manage these types of additions.
Independence: Does a pre–built home mean I have fewer options and possibly receive a lesser quality structure?
Darin: It is true the quality of your home is only as good as the people who build it. In the case of pre–built homes, reputable companies like Brewster are able to offer you the options you seek and still produce a high quality, well–built home you and your family will love.
Independence: What do you see as your fastest growing market?
Darin: We find the smaller communities and rural areas of South Dakota have the most difficulty finding available contractors to service remote and less populated communities. This makes the pre–built option very attractive for those wanting to build homes.
Independence: What advice can you give someone looking at the pre–built option?
Darin: Regardless of whom you chose to do business with, get a signed contract before the work begins. We have found the detailed process leading up to the contract will help eliminate inaccurate estimates, missed billable items and overages, which are expensive mistakes for all involved.
