This 18 year old young lady from Huron, showed no fear as she wowed the judges, along with a large State Fair crowd, and delivered an impressive performance. Alexis is very humble regarding her win and does not consider herself a musical person since she doesn’t play an instrument or read music. Nor did she ’inherit’ musical talent from her family, but she does have an ear for vocals and has proven she can compete with the best of them.

Credit Union Professional Spotlight - Chad Moller

Chad Moller grew up in the rural community of Cherokee, Iowa, located in the northwest part of the state. The Moller family was involved in farming, but did not live on the farm, rather they lived in town. Chad says his parents have always had an influence on him, which played a key role in installing a strong work ethic, even at an early age. “I have always tried to follow their examples of keeping my head up and working hard, no matter the task in front of me,” he stated.

8 Area Seniors Receive $8000 in Scholarships from Dakotaland Federal Credit Union

Huron, South Dakota  -  March 21, 2018   Dakotaland Federal Credit Union recently honored 8 area youth with $8000 in College Scholarships for the 2018-19 school year.  Each recipient submitted an application and an essay highlighting the positive changes they would make in their communities if given the opportunity. Those submissions were judged by a scholarship committee made up of 10 individuals.  “I was thoroughly impressed with the applicants and how many extra-curricular activities, clubs, etc. they were involved in, along with jobs and volunteer work. So many of these students truly care about the communities they live in and really want to make a difference in this world. The remarkable talent we see in these young individuals makes them all very deserving applicants, which made our job a tough one.”, stated Scholarship Committee Member and Real Estate Loan Officer, Dani Engels of the Brookings Branch Office.  

The following winners were each awarded $1000 to use toward their continued education.  David Kastner of Redfield, SD will graduate from Redfield High School and will be attending South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD majoring in Biology.  Alissa Gauer of Huron, SD will graduate from Huron High School and will be attending South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD majoring in Engineering.  Avery Shumaker of Huron, SD will graduate from James Valley Christian School and will be attending Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD majoring in Graphic Design and Marketing. Dalton Howe of Redfield, SD will graduate from Redfield High School and will be attending South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD majoring in Agronomy. Tristan Ziebart of Woonsocket, SD will graduate from Woonsocket High School and will be attending the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD majoring in Elementary & Special Education.  Brexton Roth of Redfield, SD will graduate from Redfield High School and will be attending South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD majoring in Wildlife and Fisheries.  Courtney Miller of Fulton, SD will graduate from Mitchell High School and will be attending South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, SD majoring in Electrical Engineering.  Kasey Schutte of Redfield, SD will graduate from Redfield High School and will be attending University of Minnesota in Morris, MN with an undeclared major at this time.  

“Our ongoing commitment to the success of our young members has inspired us to invest in their futures through scholarships and student loans.  We are delighted to see the accomplishments and goals these students have reached.  It is our intent to assist them in their future ambitions anyway we can”, added Credit Union President, Dan Cumbee.
